GG: October 12, 1964

Does anyone know what happened on October 12, 1964?:

"ON OCTOBER 12, 1964, GOULD ANNOUNCED HIS 
ABRUPT DEPARTURE FROM THE CONCERT STAGE--
TO DEVOTE HIS TIME TO RECORDING, LECTURING
AND WRITING, AS WELL AS RADIO AND TELEVISION

What is this date: October 12, 1964?  
Nowadays we everyone know his last 
concert was on April 10, 1964 in Los Angeles, 
according to the Friedrich biography.  Strictly saying,
it *happened* to be the last concert:  As far as I know,
GG did not make a definite decision to leave the concert 
activity forever when he performed on April 10.

October 12, 1964---what does this date stand for?
Did GG make an announcement to the press?
Were there any papers which wrote his "abrupt departure"
on the date?

Are there any other materials which mention this date?

Now it is impossible to ask Jock Carroll, for he died in 
August 1995 just before the publication. 

Anyone tell me for him.
