The distinction we are looking for is between performances than can be
edited and those that cannot.

Editable: studio recording for issue on disc.
          recordings made for later broadcast on radio or teevee
Ineditable: performances transmitted as they are made at a public concert.
            performances transmitted as they are made at a studio but with
            audience present.
            These are the "live" performances.
      
            Live performances broadcast later.
            Live performances taped and circulated either privately or for
            public sale.

I don't think Nancy Canning's _A Glenn Gould Catalog_ makes all the
necessary distinctions.
