Dear F-minors,
In "The question of the Instrument" GG says to
Moinsangeon he doesn't actually like Bach's italian pieces (i.e.
Italian concerto, Cromatic Fantasy) and that "those pieces are the kind of music
Bach's sons would like the old man to compose". Gould argues that
pieces like the Cromatic Fantasy are intended to serve and to exploit
the sonority of the instrument per se
and and do not correspond to Bach's natural musical language. He also
says ironicaly that the Cromatic Fantasy could serve as sound track of
a Hitchcock movie :)
My question is:
Did Gould publish or give his opinion on
the Concert after Marcello? Did he like it? Did he performed it sometimes
in public concerts? His studio performance is really great! I didn't found any GG comment on that work in any
interview (Page, Moinsangeon) nor in articles or booklets.
Thanks i.a. for you comments,
Lluís
