Could anyone give a literal translation into English? Than we could hold a
competition for the best poetical translation :) However, the poem doesn't seem
to by rhymed.

I found this poem on the german magazine "Die Zeit" of September the 6th.
It's good to know that Glenn Gould is still inspiring people in writing
lyrics.

It is in German. I can't afford a translation between two languages that
are equally foreign to me.


Thema ueber eine Variation

Gould sitz auf dem Stummel von einem Hocker,
vor seinem Fluegel, Yamaha, und summt...
Die Haltung von Kopf und Haenden,
die eine Spielzeugtischlers,
in einer Puppenstube Stuehle rueckend,
Fenster schliessend. April,
die Eisberge ziehen vorueber,
die Stube wird davon empfindlich heller.
Ueber der zum Horizont auf Stoss gerueckten,
silberfarbenen Tapetenleiste
das Foto in der Pose eines Arktikers
am Ausgangspunkt der Reise.
Die Waende duenn, man kann Gezwitscher
hoeren, Tellerscheppen, Telefongespraeche,
einen Zug, so lang, dass sie in A und B
zugleich die Schranken schliessen.

Maybe these are not the most original things to write about Glenn Gould,
but it's not a bad poem.
