GG: film festival in Virginia 6/14 & 6/17/99

Speaking of GG films, we're having a GG film festival here next month as
part of the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival (Harrisonburg, Virginia).  
The two GG events are:

Monday 6/14, 7:30 p.m.: 

The Retreat from the Stage

Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, 1974, 44 min.  Gould discusses the reasons
behind his abrupt retirement from the concert stage, as well as the work
of Byrd, Gibbons, Bach and Wagner; and plays Schoenberg's Suite.

The Alchemist

Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, 1974, 27 min. The recording and editing
sessions that produced the Bach A Major English Suite and Scriabin's
Desire (sic).

The Goldberg Variations

Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, 1981, 58 min. Visual record--the last
issued before Gould's sudden death--of his legendary interpretation of
Bach's masterpiece.

Thursday 6/17, 7:30 p.m.:

Goldberg Variations.  Part II of the Film Festival will be introduced by
festival creator Susan Koscis of Washington, D.C. At the conclusion of the
film, Ms. Koscis will answer questions from the audience.

I think these two events are free, but I am not absolutely sure.  The
annual film festivals at this Bach Festival are generally free.  The main
concerts have tickets at various prices.  Some of you might be
particularly interested in the Saturday evening concert 6/19: it includes
the Goldberg Variations arranged for string orchestra by Dmitri
Sitkovetsky.

I'm performing in the (free) Sunday morning "Leipzig service" 6/20, the
last day of the festival.  I'm playing some of Bach's organ works from
when he was 23 years old, fresh from his visit with Buxtehude, newly
married, no children yet.  The service also includes the cantata #10 and
some selections from Russian traditions.
