who gave me answers on/off list to the "plateau" question.

I think the "terraced dynamics" interpretation is the most
convincing, so I will try translating the phrase again according
to it.

Having read your posts, I opened Kevin Bazzana's 
*Glenn Gould: The Performer in the Work* and
I found there is a discussion on the "terraced dynamics"
(pp.211-214).  This is the same discussion as we did!

What a usuful study the book is!
