GG: lost messages/ backup archive

All:

If your server is down or not accepting messages for a period (this can
often happen while repairs and updates are being made) and your system
does not accept a re-sent message after a period of time, listserv is
configured to stop trying to send the message. (Previously, when we were
using majordomo software for the list it was configured in such a way that
I would get hundreds of messages weekly regarding the status of emails
going to the various systems of 300+ subscribers. Your systems go down or
do not accept mail more often than you know!) Mailing lists handle too
much email to continue trying to send stray messages until remote systems
are up and working. This would explain why you would miss an entire
exchange which took place over a relatively short period of time, for
example-- your system could have been down while those messages were sent.
I monitor f_minor on two different systems to make certain that I receive
all the email.

If you want to make sure you're getting to read all the action you can
double check the archives as well. OUR OFFICIAL ARCHIVE:
http://www.glenngould.org/mail/archives/f_minor/ This archive contains ALL
the f_minor posts from the beginning of the list from August, 1995-- 7,103
messages.

THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS IS NOT OUR OFFICIAL ARCHIVE. It is incomplete and
contains ONLY messages sent since we changed over to listserv software in
May of 2000. It is generated by the same software, in other words, that
manages the list. Aside from posts before May of 2000, however, it should
be complete.

If you have questions please e-mail me. If it seems that you have missed
an extraordinary number of email messages from the list but are still
getting messages, contact your ISP about how to find out when and for how
long your mail server is down to see if that is the problem.

Best,
