Re: O tempora! O mores!

Hi List

A quick search of the web for Cage and Gould turned up the contents of
Volume 2/Number 2 (Fall 1996) of the Glenn Gould magazine, home page at
http://www.glenngould.ca/ggmag.html

Here's their description of an article

"Glenn Gould and John Cage in Counterpoint," by Johanne Rivest, pages 81-85.
A provocative comparison of Gould and Cage--their respective views on music
history, ethics, politics, counterpoint, and structure. Specially written
for GlennGould, and translated from the French. Includes an abstract of the
author's M.A. thesis, "L'interprétation musicale chez Glenn Gould"
(University of Montreal, 1987). (Two photos.)

Anybody seen this article? Looks like somebody beat me to the Cage/Gould
connection. Oh well, a look at the index to Bazzana's book shows me that he
too has made the connection.

Glad you liked it .

Has anyone ever seen those odd classical compilation albums like Pachelbel's
Greatest Hit, which is nothing but different performances of the canon?
Maybe a record company should do such an album of 4'33''. Howoritz does
4'33, Wendy Carlos, the Boston Pops? Anyone else got some ideas on who the
great interpreters of 4'33'' could be?

Jim

PS: I made a single text file of the contents of all the back issues of the
Glenn Gould magazine. I'd be happy to share it with anyone that wants it?
Back issues, by the way, cost 25 dollars apiece! and are only available to
the official card carrying members of the friends of Glenn Gould. Double
yikes!!
