GG: RealAudio at the NLC Site

Well, I couldn't get to sleep, so I might as well write something
about Glenn. :->

Has anybody visited this link lately?
http://www.gould.nlc-bnc.ca/ra/real.htm

There's RealAudio of Glenn playing at home (or at cottage), plus
"test" recordings made in the studio. Those who like the humming
should check out the first "at home" recording! (Don't worry, you
won't have to listen to all 15 minutes of it to know what I mean.)
It's more than humming, it's... Well, let's say it's too bad Glenn
didn't live long enough to do a duet with Bobbie McFarrin. ;->

Also, the Brahms excerpts are great. Glenn Gould playing Brahms in the
style of Mitch Miller?! Also, I love Glenn's laugh. It was startling
when I first heard it. Much like the humming.

There's also a RealAudio file of Glenn Gould speaking. Not to be
missed. Glenn is both thoughtful and playful -- with Glenn, it's
sometimes hard to tell which is which. This recording was made in
Newfoundland, while he was making "The Latecomers." It definitely
demonstrates Glenn's speaking style. There's a couple of looooong
sentences in there.

Wish I had time to listen to all of them. Several of them run above
half an hour. I wish they had more files of Glenn speaking, too. (I
know -- picky, picky)

And now for something completely different (well, not that different,
really):
Has anyone seen the photo of hotel keys Glenn inadvertently kept?
That's truly symbolic of the distracted artist. Though if certain of
his biographers had seen that picture, they might have gone off into a
tangent with their speculations. (I can see the cover blurb now. "Was
Glenn Gould a closet kleptomaniac? Did he keep hotel keys in an
attempt to control his environment?") Oh, well. What do you expect
from the sort of people who try to read something out of the names
Glenn gave his cars -- I'm sure he didn't mean anything "outré" when
he named them Longfellow and Lancelot! (What would they make of me?
When things were going wrong, I used to call my Dodge Dart #^&@! and
*&%*!!!)
