Thank you for your info on the GG new CD.
By chance, I found it at Tower in Tokyo
but I didn't buy it.

How did you find it?
I hear that the performance with Guerrero was very 'romantic' one
according to books about GG.

tape, LPs, and 78 rpm acetates) reflects the sound limitations of their day.

The first four recordings appear to be originally released on Hallmark RS3
in 1953. They were released on VOX TV 34792X in 1982, called The Young Glenn
Gould, In Memorium, Vol 1. The Mozart pieces were probably originally
released in 1983 on VOX TV 34793X The Young Glenn Gould, In Memorium Vol 2.
The liner notes list the 1948 Italian Concerto as Gould's first recoding of
Bach's music. The notes indicate the recording demonstrates a gifted student
still finding his way. However, there are no other details regarding the
1948 recording. The information was checked with Nancy Canning's A Glenn
Gould Catalog and from the listing in Glenn Gould: A Life and Variations.


A second CD that I just purchased combines Gould/Mitropoulos live
performance from the Salzberg Festival from 1958 (originally released on
Nuovo Era/Price Less labels), along with several other Bach performances --
in an album called loosely translated, Bach at the Salzburg Festival. In
addition to the performance of the Bach d Minor concerto (BWV 1052), the CD
also collects a 1958 performance by Mitropoulos/Vienna Philharmonic
performing the Fantasy and Fuge in b Minor, Milstein's performance of the
Partita g Minor, Partita in c Minor for Klavier (Geza Anda), and two
selections from Bach's in b Minor Mass, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic
led by von Karajan (1961). There is a catalog included of many performances
from Salzburg, including Gould's 1959 Salzburg performances of Sweelinck,
Schoenberg, Mozart, and Bach on SONY SMK 53474.

Does anyone know more about this? Which first recordings are they? CBC
recordings? Or even earlier recordings, perhaps even restored copies of the
recordings he made in his teens?
