Thanks to Karl, Anne, Madiva for their complementary messages.
What I was up to was to know how and by whom A. G was trained.
Sure, he must have been a good teacher = he trained very different pupils
and not only none of them imitated him but just as well they did not imitate
each other! Still, Gould's most influential teacher might have been one he
never had = A. Schnabel...
