Oh, what lust for pictures! Wenders is a poet in visualisation. I can dive
into these pictures (we call it "sich satt sehen"), their width, their
truth. And together with Kubrick he is the man to reconcile music and image.
And then the other great american topic - the roadmovie, which of course is
a Western in a nowadays array, people in permanent cruising on their
personal quest

Yes Yes, I need to watch "Wings Of Desire" about once a year to rekindle
some kind of faith in life.? The music scenes in it are wonderful too.?
Ingmar Bergman used music well in his films, if with more sparsity.? In so
many films the music is like an appendage which is just used so someone can
make more money selling the "sound track."? Satyajit Ray wrote an essay
called "silent films" about how, in the rush to profit from the invention of
sound films, the delicate visual beauty of film was trampled.
?
Oddly enough, the best Road Movie i've ever seen happens to be Finnish:?
"Leningrad Cowboys Go America," (directed by Aki Kaurismaki) of course you
can leave it to another culture to do a better job of interpreting American
Culture.? It has some funny and astute observations!
