If Gould didn't want humming on his recordings, all he had to do was stop humming. When he didn't want "wrong" notes, all he had to did was play the "right" notes instead. He knew what he was doing. People didn't buy recording's by "Pianist" Glenn Gould. They bought recordings "by Glenn Gould". Period. And that is the way they should stay.
