GG: wish list

this list is perhaps a little excessive and eclectic, but,
in such a nature, it seems quite becoming to the character
of gould.

-a gould rendition of beethoven's grosse fugue, op. 133, or
an entire rehash of op. 134 (the beethoven arrangement of
the piece for four hands, two pianos) would be an interesting
addition to the collection.

-some arvo part would be enthralling, i think--not the serialist
work--but rather the humane, religious, sacred, virginal, sparse
beauty of his "tintinnabulation." plenty of room for our boy
glenn to twist and shout. i can't name a piece right off--
the popular "fratres" wouldn't do it, and i simply can't see
gould using a "prepared piano" in any other manner than his own.

-"downtown"

-completion of those unfinished projects--the full bach
piano concertos, the art of fugue, the beethoven sonatas,

-ALL of shostakovich's piano quintet, not just the mere teaser
(complete with string section dialogue [showing just how *nice*
gould's voice is on tape compared to the average bear]). i know
gould had an aversion to fireman shostakovich's music, but
a the p's and f's would have been nice.

-schoenberg's op. 4 verklaerte nacht: difficult to hear on a
piano (but, perhaps). i believe this piece was on his "scores
to learn" list for conducting--a sore loss that he never completed
it.

-a corrected orchestral version of siegfried idyll without vast
bloopers in the strings. damn tso. along with this, some more
wagner, and, furthermore, some strauss symphonic poems would have
been grand. while i'm badgering the orchestral work, i ought to
add mahler (particularly symphonies no. 2 and no. 7), some bruckner,
sibelius 7--whatever else. a few complete symphonies might have
given us a new alternative to bernstein and his ilk, fully developing
(perhaps) a new voice for gould.

-a larger body of radio documentaries and compositions of such
like upon which to base a concrete style; beyond this, perhaps
an opus two or three to add beyond his string quartet (i.e.,
piano transcriptions of the idea of north, symphonic work,
serious fugues... but i'm terribly removed and uninformed as
to gould's own disposition to his own musical work--great
amounts of documentary have been presented pertaining to his
reticence to criticism and so forth, his [perhaps?] dissatisfaction
with op. 1--if anybody has any concrete knowledge of his feelings
[first hand, if anyone is out there], i'd like to solve the
trouble in my mind once and for all. why?).

-gould rules the internet: imagine, just imagine--the poor
fellow hitting the web and letting it loose. his input would
have jumped invariably, as would have his output, or so i imagine
(the drawback being gamma radiation). gould's idea of an exciting
medium (telivision) has been taken to a new extreme of
push/pull media. i would have liked to observe gould's
manipulations of these breakthroughs in technology....
(why is it that both gould and mcluhan missed the net?)
additionally, imagine the advantages of a fully digital *home studio*
with hundreds of tracks and editing capabilities within the $10,000
range...

-i also wish that gould either out and out declared himself
a celibate, or got on his white horse and swept a somewhat
aged petula clark off of her feet, riding into the sunset
of little musical genius feet pitterpatting.

so it goes.
