I guess that settles it. This recording is not by GG, but I would surely like to know the organist (I'll eventually figure out which fugue it is). I would like to get all of his or her available recordings of the Bach fugues. This one reminds me so much of Glenn's unabashed approach, accurate playing to a fault, with little bits of subtle irreverence at interesting points. I would like to hear more. Due to the name of this list, Fminor, it might be interesting for me to point out (but it's probably already been noted here), that the KULTUR /CBC International VHS/Beta cover has GG playing Beethoven's Op34 Fm Variations. I was quite stirred when I noticed this, before ever watching the tape, thinking that this might be a mature LvB Fm set which was unknown to me, or maybe that the famous F major Vars had at least a few variations in the F minor?, but neither was true. The second part of Var 4, Marcia, only starts out on a Fm chord, and it never returns. - How could a blunder like this get past the proofreaders? Jerbi p.s. the CD 654 you mentioned above is available for trade according to this post from the Bach List: (omitted)END. |
