Well, yes, my first excursion onto a chat
group....
To James Whiskeychan et al - an introduction
I have an initial tendency always to get somewhat miffed
when I hear other people - moreover from civilised parts over the pond and
the big water - who state they live in the middle of nowhere....I have just come
back on line after a week of no communication [read "Black Hole"] as affirmative
shopping of copper telephone wires is a favorite pastime in these Xeric [lit
& fig] parts. Even just attempting to report the problem via radio to
nearest neighbors 20 kms away is a gothic procedure. This is a vast sheep
and game farm with - joy of joys - a little meerkat (suricatta suricattus) as my
particular friend - cf Sept National Geographic....he is a very very smelly
little boy!
Ordering GG-isms ex USA or Canada with our Monopoly money
is most distressing to economic health. So be thankful that you are able
to enjoy online shopping sans huge postage etc. etc. But yes: this
review is tweaking me into dire economic action.
Whereabout is yr middle of nowhere? Mine is pretty
close to the geographic center of So Africa...I spent some weeks happily
traveling around Quebec while on sabbatical in Yellow Springs, Ohio some years
back but did not get to the rest of Canada
A more general question: is there a source of less
costly issues of the GG magazines - I really cannot consider with equanimity
handing over a weeks salary to obtain a single issue...
Thirdly: the Sept Issue of BBC Music contains a
short article on GG. It is refreshingly sans the adulation that seems to
be a fairly regular occurrence, but he has some rather sniping comments that I
am not musicologist enough to comment on critically. Any help out
there?
Cordially
