GG: ideal studio
Mary Jo asked:
> What would GG's ideal recording studio be like? (...) Where would it
> be? (...) Oh! What would he call the place?
It would either be on the shore of Lake Simcoe, or on Georgina Island *in*
Lake Simcoe. The studio would have multiple banks of microphones at
different distances from the piano. A small rug would be on the hardwood
floor under the piano. There would be a 30-litre dispenser of Poland
water, a Bodum coffeemaker for the finest double-doubles, and an endless
supply of Arrowroots.
Just outside the studio there would be a wire service machine bringing
news 24 hours a day. GG would at any whim grab some sheets off the
machine and bring them into the studio to read into a microphone. A radio
transmitter within the building would allow GG to broadcast anything to
other lake citizens that he chose to (short programmes), naturally turning
it on only to suit his own schedule, i.e. broadcasting at 3:00 a.m.
In the same building there would be four flats, all for use by GG himself
according to his mood. Each would have multiple televisions and radios
and be well-stocked with ketchup and recordings of Schoenberg. ("Four
flats" is of course the signature of F minor.) Only three of them would
be battleship grey; the other would be fire-engine red.
Farmland would be just across the way, stocked with cows and sheep and a
very good sheepdog. "Farm" is a rather inaccurate term, as it would
actually be an animal sanctuary. Naturally, no animals would ever be
harmed. The cows would provide fresh cream for the double-doubles.
The property would be named Schlachthof Vier Jahreszeiten.
