Could be. My Frequenz/Memoria CD -- bought in Hong Kong in the late 1980s
-- has the catalogue number CMG 1 and makes no mention of mono or stereo.
The liner notes are by Umberto Masini in Italian and translated into
English, German and French. The inner (non-recordable) band of the CD is
inscribed 'CMG 1' and '2A5 6X', although the characters are very small
and stylised and could be 'ZAS BX'. The front of the CD has '1986 DP'
printed on it, which I take to be the production date of the CD. The back
liner says the 'historic recording' was made at the Salzburg Festival on
25.8.1959, and then:
'Printed in Italy
CD is made
and manufactured by
Nippon Columbia Ltd, Japan'
Any other variations (pun)? And did GG perform this concert only the
once, or did he repeat it? Regards,
