Re: CBC questions
Mary Jo:
In my opinion, I believe the questions are more interesting than the answers
to the same question that I can give. Glenn Gould an "icon"? Not in the
sense like the pictures of venerated saints that are found in the Russian
or Greek Orthodox Church, perhaps, but to me the question strikes me as
being more in the theological (i.e. religious) realm than with anything
human. Now, to me Glenn is not a "icon" that people pray to (unless they
want to) but a very complex and fascinating human being, with his strengths
and weaknesses. Perhaps the reason that GG is a "icon", "saint" or whatever
to some people is that they find in him something that they strive towards
or admire greatly and perhaps this translates into "icon" status. Perhaps it
was also his deliberate choice to be somewhat reclusive that intrigues some
people and attracts them. Who knows?
Why do people participate in f-minor? Hell if I do. Perhaps people are
interested in the subject perhaps; maybe some people feel more comfortable
"talking" on the internet, perhaps. There is a sense of anonymity and
perhaps group feeling that is not possible when one talks with a friend face
to face or even talking on the telephone. I'd be interested in what other
people make of Karin Well's questions. Be well.
