GG: new CD's concocted by f_minor members
Recently, fellow f_minor member John Hill and I got together to record
clavichord music and it's turned out we have enough stuff for three
albums. We're now seeking a publisher or publishers. Anybody here have
any connections to record companies? Suggestions?
Details of repertoire are at http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bpl/clav.htm
The project is really two projects which could be done separately. The
first is mostly classical with a bit of jazz and folk, and the second is a
set of hymns and chorales.
-----
The Domestic Clavichord (working title)
This project is intended for publication as either a two-CD set or as two
single discs. The unifying theme is that this set explores the huge
variety of repertoire which can be played for enjoyment at home on a
clavichord. The albums are designed for the enjoyment of connoisseurs and
more casual listeners alike; they can be especially an excellent first
introduction to the clavichord.
111 minutes, enough for two volumes or a two-disc set.
-----
Hymnal Masterworks: Clavichord (working title)
This project is intended for publication on CD and cassette. The
selections are all drawn from Hymnal: A Worship Book (1992), currently in
use by the Mennonite and Brethren denominations, but most of these hymn
and chorale tunes can be found in many other hymnals as well. Publication
and enjoyment of the album does not require ties to use of this particular
hymnal.
The album is a compilation of music from the standard classical organ
repertoire plus new arrangements. It is intended for a broad audience:
anyone who knows these hymns and chorales, the clavichord, or the related
sounds of dulcimer, harpsichord, guitar, or organ. It will appeal both to
the connoisseur of keyboard music and to the general listener who simply
enjoys hearing these tunes.
56 minutes.
("Hymnal Masterworks" is an existing series that already has similar discs
of piano, guitar, organ, and others. I'm hoping either to join that
series or pitch this disc to a different publisher.)

The tribute to GG (in addition to the arrowroots consumed, and the
Javachip in honor of Glenn's "double-doubles") is an Orlando Gibbons vocal
piece intended for both sets. The tribute to Pablo Casals is the folk
song "Song of the birds" that he played as his regular encore. There's
also a Bill Evans arrangement, a Joe Pass tune, plus the earliest existing
keyboard piece (c1325). And some delightful Bartok from his "For
Children" collection, and a minute of Schoenberg, and plenty more.
And there's that song that Bugs Bunny sings in "Long-Haired Hare" when
he's in baritone Giovanni Jones' yard singing with his ukulele, before he
goes to dress up as Leopold Stokowski and conduct at the Hollywood Bowl.
A real variety.
