GG: Ostwald
Yes, the writings are a little light this week, so here goes.
I just finished the book "Glenn Gould: The Ecstasy and Tragedy of Genius."
I thought that the book was generally very good. I would have preferred to
read a little more about performances and recording sessions, but this was
not within the scope of the book anyway. I thought that the account of
Glenn's death was extremely poignant, too, and as the title said, very
tragic. Has anyone else read this book? What did you think?
This week, I found a used copy of GG playing Chopin, Mendelssohn, Scriabin,
and Prokofiev. I was especially curious to hear G play Scriabin. I am
very happy with that. I can also understand why some folks would rather
not hear G play Chopin. I liked the playing on here, but it is definitely
unorthodox. Comments???
