I could be way off base here, but I once saw a picture of Piet
Mondrian's "Broadway Boogie Woogie" which was described as having a
sense of pulse. When I saw the real painting at MOMA in New York, I
really knew what they meant. The painting seems to "move" like music
does. It's probably from the color and shape integration that
Mondrian used to make the work look like it has phrases and cadence
points.
