GG- Re: On musical abilities...

Hello,

I've been following the musical abilities thread with fascination. I have
never been moved to tears by visual art, though I have noticed that it can
have a profound effect one me. A good example would be Raphael's 'Crucifixion'.
The painting seemed to present a fairly traditional story in a new and pure
form that had a numbing effect over me. I have also experienced the same
feeling with Grunevald's "The Isenheim Alterpiece" (forgive spelling.)

I can't say that I have ever been moved to tears by music either, but pieces
such as Hindemith's "Mathis der Maler" symphony (one of GG's favorites, too)
and some of the later Schubert and Beethoven string quartets have the same
effect on me as the visual art.

Let's take the question a step further. Has anyone ever been moved to tears
by literature?

Regards, David
