Re: GG and Toronto Symphony
Variations is listed as unknown. It can safely be assumed that they were
CBC broadcasts, if for no other reasons than that one of the concertos
was performed with the CBC orchestra.
Yes, this seems very likely.
Frankly, the whole thing looked really suspect to me. I wanted to know
if anyone knew anything about the company who released these and whether
they were legitimate. The CD really looks like a bootleg to me, and I
Well, depending on how much effort you want to expend, you could call
CBC and ask them if they ever authorized the recordings ... a bootleg
does not seem all that improbable to me. (And urge them to release real
recordings and videos while you're at it :-).
The previous f_minor message where I heard about them was the
following. There's other obscure catalog information in other old
f_minor posts ... this one is from ftp://ftp.cs.umb.edu/pub/misc/f_minor/f03.

Subject: Music & Arts Gould Recordings
In response to a request from Anthony Dell-Aera about more information about the
Glenn Gould CD from Music & Arts on Bernstein/Gould Brahms performance I have
listed below the full Music & Arts CD's.
When these were originally released they contained unrealeased Gould material,
particularly from CBC broadcasts. Sony stopped Music & Arts marketing these
CD's and have since released a fair portion of the contents in their Glenn
Gould Edition series. They will no doubt cover most of the contents in due
course as they have exclusive rights for all material recorded after 1955.
I can personally vouch for all the CD's except the last one, (CD 694), which was
announced but I don't know if it escaped before the shutdown. If anyone finds a
copy I would be interested.
As I have said these are now technically not available but here in the UK I
still come across stray copies in record stores and as they came originally from
California there must be a few over the pond as well.
If I get time I will post up details of the European non-sony or CBC material I
know about.
