[F_MINOR] GG: Problems for the foundation + Re: [F_MINOR] OT: Speaking of Facade...
Heello Anne and the rest,
This might not be the right time to give you less than happy news.
Then again, when is there such a time...
I've just received news that the GG Foundation has funding problems.
Apart from the prize, which has different sources of money, all
activities will have to cost less money -- or they will have find new
and RICH sponsors.
This new situation will probably effect the magazine, "GlenGould".
There is talk of changing the publication somehow, but I don't know any
specifics.
"Facade" is a great work, with many more arresting movements than the
one Gould took part in.
The author to the very interesting poems is Edith Sitwell.
I know of two excellent recordings: Pamela Hunter on Discover (not
available anymore) and a Hyperion rec. (CDA67239)
The "Gould movement" is called "Scotch Rhapsody" (hence his dialect).
My favourite qoute from "Facade" (from "Popular Song): "Lily
O'Grady/Silly and shady/Longing to be/A lazy lady"
Regards,
Jorgen
Here is the Gingold/Oberlin recording of Facade...

Does anyone know which poem Glenn Gould recited from "Facade"? And which
bit/performance/skit was it from? And could anyone understand his
Scottish
accent?!
