Subject: [F_MINOR] Glenn plays
Liszt
I've got the shivers. CBC radio has put on Glen playing
Beethoven's Symphony #6, first movement. I tell you, although I have
just about heard the sixth about a million times and don't ever want to hear a
symphony orchestra play it again, my body is full of goosebumps as I listen to
what must be one of his very best recordings. His appreciation of
Beethoven's symphonic architecture comes through on a piano in ways that more
than surpass most of the live conductors at the podium. He simply sails
through the ether, showing us the inner joys that Beethoven envisioned.
It is a tragedy of great proportions that Glenn did not conduct more than he
did. That God snatched away this towering genius still saddens me to my
core. And yet I can be comforted at once when Glenn's fingers dance and
my heart leaps up.
Kind regards, Fred Houpt
