Re: Just one track ?

I agree. When I replied to a thread that said "Shall we get back on the
Gouldian track?", I now see that my reply, "I agree. Was the bassoon piece
ever recorded?" sounded too much like an attack to the threads that were
going on. I didn't mean it to sound like that. I can see how my reply was
unproductive and appeared to try and kill another thread. I had no
intention of coming across like that but now I see it did. It was very late
at night (lousy excuse I know)!

I absolutely agree that a wide range of discussion is appropriate for this
group. I have no problem with threads going off into topics that will
become obscure to many of us but began with a something about GG. That will
happen in the normal course of conversation and it's ok with me. However,
some people will always object and those who post threads that appear to go
off topic should understand that.

I was not following those threads very well and I replied too fast without
thinking. I also have no problem with multiple threads with multiple topics
at the same time being posted. That's fine. I simply delete what I'm not
interested in.

For example, Gould liked the keyboard works of Bach but never got too much
into Bach aria's, Cantatas, ect... To go into depth about Bach Canatas in
this group is streching the topic pretty far. So, there is a limit how far
out topics should go. If two people get into a lengthy off-topic exchange
it probably would be better to continue that thread via private email
between the two of those posters.

You Jim have posted many very informative posts that always have seemed very
appropriate to me.

So if I offended anyone please accept an apology. I've really never seen
any type of posting problems in this email group and consider it one of the
best around because of course GG was one of the best musicians and thinkers
around. GG's life and influence has provided us with endless topic
possibilities that often branch out into far reaching places. That's the
wonder of GG, so many topics do come to mind about GG and we all have areas
we'd like to learn more about and discuss. So, keep it up.

Mike
