The Inn on the Park Fire

I vaguely remember reading that Glenn Gould was _residing_ there when the
fire occurred at the Inn on the Park. Like everyone else, he was forced to
evacuate -- and watch the unfolding tragedy. The Inn on the Park fire was
Canada's worst hotel fire -- six people died, trapped by flames. The
untrained hotel staff received part of the blame. (I have worked in the
instructional design field, so I would start the blame with the management
that failed to train the staff!) Apparently, the fire started because of a
lit cigarette butt sucked up into a vacuum. (So we can't blame GG for
overloading the hotel's wiring with recording equipment. <g>)

Does anyone know if Glenn Gould was actually there at the time? I do
remember reading a Tim Page article that mentioned that because of the
fire, GG insisted that Tim get a room on a low floor because he didn't want
him trapped if there were another fire. But I can't find anything else that
confirms GG was there during the fire. Where the !@#$ did I read this? (If
my GG biographies were available on PalmPilot format, I could look this
stuff up much more easily...)
