Re: GG...and that harpsichord
Great email John,
I love those inventions and sinfonias as well.
If you want to come close to making a similar album,
make a tape of nothing but the preludes to the WTC.
That home-made album is another one of my favorite GG
recordings.
And the Enoch Arden album is a lot of fun to listen to.
And speaking of fun, Gould's version of Mozart's Turkish March
must rank up there with his all time silliest and most enjoyable
recordings. I love the percussive, whump whump whump of that
piece. No doubt that sound is akin to the one he got out of the
harpsichord on the Handel cd.
How did the critics like GG's Schoenberg recordings. I can't get enough
of the solo music (which in an odd way reminds me of the byrd/gibbons
cd, anyone else feel that way?) though the piano concerto and fantasy for
violin and
piano leave me wanting more, but hey, I don't like those pieces anyway.
