Just ran across the following opinion:

Glenn Gould found his Bach and because of this, he deserves his fame. It seems
to me that his main virtue lies in his sonority, which is exactly what is
fitting for Bach. However, Bach's music, in my opinion, demands more depth and
severity, while with Gould everything is a little bit too brilliant and
exterior. But, especially, he doesn't take all of the repeats, and for that I
cannot forgive him. That means that he doesnít love it enough.
