GG Clavichord recordings
Hello everyone
May I make some additions to the list of clavichord etc recordings?
48 on Clavichord:
Daniel Chorzempa on Philips 446 690 2 (4CD) plays a clavichord for 10
pieces of book 1 (Haas, 1742) and 3 of book 2 (attrib Silbermann c 1775).
The other pieces are played on harsichord, organ and a Silbermann
Hammerflügel.
I think the Tilney recording on Hyperion of the complete 48 has book 1 on
clavichord and book two on harsichord.
CPE Bach on clavichord:
Armin Thalheim, Capriccio 10 107: Achtzehn Probëstucke in sechs Sonaten (Wq
63). This is, as far as I am aware, the only complete recording of the
Eighteen Study Pieces in Six Sonatas. Each movement is in a different key,
grouped into three movement sonatas (eg number one is C maj, E min, G maj).
This CD came out as part of Capriccio's CPE Edition in 1988, so may not be
easy to find. The instrument used was made in 1787 by Straube of Berlin.
Gustav Leonhardt BMG RCA Victor GD 71969 CPE Bach recital includes
'Abschied von Silbermannschen Clavier in einem Rondeaux...' (Farewell to my
Silbermann Clavichord) Wq 66 and a lengthy Fantasia in f sharp minor, Wq
67. This was issued in 1989. The recording is a SEON production from 1972
and may now be licensed to a differnt label.
Peter Philips on harpsichord.
Anneke Uittenbosch on Etcetera KTC1002 is quite good, but only lasts 47
minutes.
Christopher Hogwood's recording of My Lady Nevells Booke was issued a few
years ago as a 3 CD set on L'Oiseau-Lyre 430 484-2.
Nearly all my CDs are boxed up while building work etc is going on at home,
but I'll to find some more clavichord stuff over the weekend.
