RE: Goldberg Variations...and Conservatory

Greetings all,
Some info on the Toronto music-school scene. I went to York University
(another large school in Toronto) for Music (performance/composition).
The U of T music program is excellent, and probably has the best
classical music program in the country.  Schools like York and McGill
(Montreal) offer a better variety of programs (Jazz, Classical, World
Music, Contemp. pop etc) and do not stick to a strict and set - out 4
year program.  The faculty at U of T is very good, but with so much
history behind it, it sometimes gets caught up in that stuffy old school
classical vibe, were nothing new seems to get explored (which is the
case with most classical programs).  Nonetheless, an excellent program,
and worth checking out.  Call or e-mail the music faculty, they'll send
you all sorts of information on the program as well as the teachers and
facilities.
