Since i don't know of any _Bata Studios_ to explain away the reference,
it's possible... barter deals - more commonly known as _contra deals_ -
aren't exactly unheard of in the film industry.
The only question i would have is: what could Herbie possibly offer GG at
that time? GG had well & truly given up touring by this stage, so it
couldn't have been European concert dates & i can't really see the old
Nazi stooping to leading the orchestra in a GG concerto disc (with or
without the complication that GG was a CBS artist & HvK was on DG).
The only thing i could possibly think of was that GG was planning a (TV?)
project; & was hoping that Herbie would reciprocate the appearance.
Possible, i guess - HvK once made himself up as a rather Ayran-looking
Mexican bandit to appear on film (he was as obsessed with his image as
any Hollywood starlet) - but it doesn't seem an obvious casting for any
GG project....
