GG: Photographic Suite
Dear fellow Glenn Gould fans,
A few months ago, I ran across a photographic book of Glenn Gould in a
San Francisco bookstore. It is a marvelous, hardbound, coffee table book,
much larger than Jock Carroll's. Published by Attila Csampai (who is this
guy?), it contains some 90 colored and black and white pictures of GG.
The roster of photographers (about a dozen) includes Jack Gould and
Russell Herbert Gould (would that be uncle and father? Can someone tell
me?). The collection begins with GG's baby picture and ends, quite
poignantly, with his chair. But I won't waste my time describing the
pictures and all the great, ineffable emotions evoked. If you don't have
this book, please get it. It's sixty dollars, a bit of a splurge for some
of us, but you owe it to yourself. This is simply the best photographic
document of Glenn Gould that I've seen.
Title: Glenn Gould Photographische Suiten

Price: $60
Where to order:
Rizzoli Bookstore

It may be faster if someone can find the publisher's address in Europe.
As you may have guessed, the text is in German. Does it matter? It's 90%
pictures, all glorious. The catalog of recordings in the appendix is
quite readable.
My apologies for not sharing this earlier. Since joining F Minor not too
long ago, no one has mentioned this book and I've began to wonder
(whether I'm commiting a crime, that is).
I enjoy reading all your emails everyday. Thank you, Mary Jo for keeping
the flow of GG consciousness going.
Best regards,
Manuel
