[f_minor] Annus Mirabilis

Dear all

(refering to the previous mail by Karl)

First of all, annus mirabilis is latin and means “wonder year”. I think it is safe to say that 2012 might see some cool events which will celebrate the Life and Times of GG.

What I have found so far is sparse. The NLC web site does not list current of upcoming events, despite that the claim they have.. But I reckon there will be one special event and we will hear about it soon.

Appartently a group of artists is organzzing a train trip to Wawa in September, where GG spend some quality time:

The Stratford Music Festival in Ontario, where GG performed sevaral times will announce its plans for the summer in April: http://www.stratfordsummermusic.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=80&Itemid=68

You will probably remember that someone close to the festival made inquiries and was looking for suggestions some time ago right here on f_minor. This might be of interest and hopefully some cool stuff will be in that schedule.

Other locations such as The GG Studio (where you can see the great Cowboy Junkies this month !), Massey Hall and Ray Thompson Hall have not yet released schedules for the fall, so have most Universities that have a canadian studies dept. Apparently Rideau Hall where one of GG’s pianos is housed is not open to the public being the seat of the local Governor. Hm.

Not much right now but we will see more over the next months. Since this list is about GG I reckon it would be a good idea if you can forward any info on local events for the rest of us to see.

Hello Mary,

I must apologize, I just returned an e-mail to you & Kate, only addressing the message to Kate instead of Kate and yourself.

Sincerest apologies,

Karl

  To Karl Brown,

This is a bit late of me but the Gould family Chickering was on display in Ottawa for the 75th birthday anniversary exposition "The Sounds of Genius", along with CD 318. I took some photos but I don't have a scanner... if you ask nicely perhaps Kate Papademas will post a couple of photos of it here on F Minor. Needless to say the two pianos were there on a strictly "Do Not Touch" basis although Karishmeh Felfeli was given a turn ... it's on youtube:

That expo was really well done, I'm glad I went. Good memories.

Mlle. Felfeli doesn't refer to Gould by his Christian name,
  Mary
