Gould Prize Laureate

Good Saturday Morning to all F_Miners.

I'm pleased to tell you that on Friday the jurors of The Glenn Gould
Prize announced that they had selected Yo-Yo Ma as the fifth Laureate.
Their citation said:

"Cellist Yo-Yo Ma is a thinking, questing musician very much in the
spirit of Glenn Gould. His artistry is immaculate and individual; his
range is wide and deep; his aspirations are of the highest order.
Moreover, Ma has employed his gifts to bring music to us all - through
his concerts and recordings, his workshops for young people, and his
multimedia explorations. Above all, he has never played it safe; long
may he nurture and challenge us."

Members of this year's jury, chaired by Francois Colbert, Vice-Chairman
of the Canada Council for the Arts, were Eva Badura-Skoda (Austria);
Tan Dun (People's Republic of China/USA); Carole Muizelaar
(Netherlands);  Tim Page (USA);  John P.L. Roberts (Canada);
Jukka-Pekka Saraste (Finland/Canada); John Wyre (Canada).

We expect that Mr. Ma will join us at The Glenn Gould Gathering in
September to receive his honours. F_Miners are especially welcome to be
in Toronto to enjoy the festival's discussions, videos, dramas, new
publications and special activities - all focusing on Glenn!
