Many thanks for your long and amusing reply -- most informative. I won't 
repeat it all here.

Was the film any good? It was better than OK -- quite entertaining, but 
it suffers from too much Vonnegutismo. Even when I read the book before I 
saw the film the first time (I used to read oceans of SF when I was 
younger), I never could quite see the connection between the Dresden 
bombing raid (which is almost glossed-over in the film, BTW) and the 
planet Tralfamadore, or whatever it's called.

And, by cc to f-minor, my thanks also to other f-miners who replied. 
However, despite all your best efforts the world is still no wiser as to 
(a) the nature of the barrel-organ (?) music and (b) whether GG had a 
thing for G&S and barbershop quartets. Any guesses?
