Your explanation of George Santayana's philosophy seemed to fit perfectly 
with the quotation from Payzant that I use to explain to people what I 
see in Glenn Gould.  (I may get this a little wrong)  "He was a man who 
decided how he wanted to live and did so."  I've always thought that 
about says it all.
