Okay, I can't cite this, but apparently Athenian government authorities
circa 250 BC outlawed certain musical chords for their effect of stirring
up the unhealthy and vulgar passions of young people. You couldn't write or
perform music on stringed instruments using these chords. It was a matter
of public order and safety.
