Re: [F_minor] Now That's a Glenn Gould Signature

Hello Anne, in all my experience on ebay (8 years) I've never seen a "fake" Glenn Gould signature. Call me naive, but I
can't see someone going to all that trouble to create a counterfeit GG signature - the market is too small to make it
worthwhile! I think that's a little scaremongering, myself.

That is an interesting item. However, collectors have a word called "provenance", which means the source or origin
of an item. Without provenance, the value of an item is significantly decreased. For example, knowing that this
album was signed by Glenn for a certain person, and then the item was acquired from that person, makes it more
valuable than knowing it was picked up at an auction somewhere, and we have no idea from where it came.

I have a signed GG album that he gave to his personal physician, along with a small inserted note (intact). This album
was acquired when the physican died and his estate was being auctioned off. In my mind, a much more valuable
item than an unknown (and unauthenticated) item from an unknown source.

There are autographed photos of GG sitting on an international auction site that have been there for years and years.
At a selling price of 6000 Euros, I think you would have to be a fine collector indeed to want that item!

Best regards,
Matthew
