Yes, of course it was the 5th symphony, not the 8th.....Thanks for the correction.  I love Schubert and am sorry GG didn't attempt to record him.   Clearly he wasn't incapable of playing him (and charmingly too!).  There might be little of counterpoint, but there is a supreme abundance of harmony and that, too, GG could have brought out in his unique fashion.  And even the spirit of the music Gould showed himself quite capable of entering into.   Dorian
