Re: Other performers who HUM ?

Richard Goode is quite noisy when he plays (at least in live performance).

Pigpen is reputed to have mumbled to himself in
Pig Latin while playing the drums.

Bernd Glemser, on Naxos, moans in a highly disturbing manner in his Scriabin
sonatas.

I've read that Toscannini liked to whistle while he worked.
But I haven't managed to catch it on the few recordings I
        have.

Also, though many people on this list will probably _hate_
me for mentioning That Name, there's David Helfgott.
For this reason, when the movie "Shine" came out, some
reviewers made comparisons between Helfgott and GG. Uhm,
try again, boys. Helfgott is noisy, but he is noisy in a
        _different_ way than GG.

Allegedly, during some performances, Helfgott can be heard
muttering "Here comes the hard part, here comes the hard
part." If GG had talked to himself during his performances,
he would've been more likely to be heard saying something
like "I wonder how my stocks are doing?" or "I think I'm
going to write a documentary about Eskimos next week.
