GG: Random Notes

 Hello F-minoreans!

A few miscellaneous questions:

1. Can you recommend recordings of the French Suites (pno or hpsd)? I have
GG's (of course), and although I sometimes enjoy his razor-sharp, xray,
pointillist, anti-Gallic, freeze-dried approach, I have a feeling that his
interpretation of this music is highly unconventional.

2. What is your favorite recording of the Goldbergs, other than one of GG's
(transcriptions for other instruments accepted)? Yes, I'm sure this has been
done before, but not since I joined the list one year ago. Comparisons are
odious, but they're fun. For me, it's a toss-up between R. Hill and S.
Schepkin.

3. Speaking of R. Hill, why does he use such lengthy trills in the aria? It
seems a bit mannered, and inconsistent with his approach to the rest of the
work, which is completely unfussy and doesn't seem to be heavily ornamented.

CALLING ALL LURKERS -- it would be great if you use this as an opportunity
to emerge from the cyberspace shadows. Don't be concerned if your musical
expertise is not at the high level of some members of the list; this has
never deterred me.
